[Paper 104] The Algebra That Holds the Metric

The Algebra That Holds the Metric: Clifford’s Geometric Algebra, Spinors, and Not Conflating It with Cartan’s Exterior Algebra.

At the source of the lineage map is a seat with no dedicated road yet: William Kingdon Clifford. He left two legacies. (1) GEOMETRIC ALGEBRA (the Clifford algebra): the product of vectors uv = u.v + u^v, with v^2 = Q(v) (a vector squared = its length = the METRIC). From it come SPINORS — the “square root” of a rotation, returning only after 720 degrees — and R^4 = C^2 = H (quaternions), the home of the Hopf fibration. (2) The prophecy, 45 years before Einstein, that “matter is nothing but the curvature of space.” The core is the SEPARATION OF DISTINCT ROOTS (58/92): the Clifford algebra (which HOLDS the metric) and Cartan’s exterior algebra (Paper 92, which FORGETS the metric) look like the same “geometric algebra” but are distinct roots — the exterior algebra writes topology (Stokes, 4pi) without a metric; the Clifford algebra builds in the metric and generates spinors and the Dirac operator. As vector spaces they are isomorphic (dimension 2^n), but as ALGEBRAS they differ (Clifford = the exterior algebra deformed by the metric). Clifford is the ALPHABET beneath the Dirac operator the corpus already uses (index theorem 70, Connes 102) via gamma^mu gamma^nu + gamma^nu gamma^mu = 2 g^{mu nu}, and the algebraic home of Hopf’s geometry (67; Spin(3)=SU(2)=S^3). The spinor’s “2” (the double cover Spin(n)->SO(n)) is a distinct root from the corpus’s other “2”s (Born, Hopf, chi; Paper 68). The “matter=curvature” prophecy is placed at Layer 3 as intuition-before-mathematics (isomorphic to Faraday, Paper 93), made science by Riemann (91) and Einstein. IMPORTANT (scope): a Layer-2 structural interpretation of established algebra (Clifford algebra, spin groups); no new mathematics and no new prediction. The Universe OS is a Layer-3 non-science lens.
