PubMed（U.S. National Library of Medicine）の件数を E-utilities で取り（2026 年 9 月 27 日）、日本語で書かれた論文（言語の欄が日本語）を 1975〜2025 年の出版年ごとに数え、要旨の有無、「英語の要旨」の出版形式、日本の所属と重ねた。日本語の論文の多い少ないの良し悪しや、研究の質は論じない。新しい数学的定理も新しい法則も主張しない。

第一に、日本語の論文は 1975 年の 7,041 件（全記録の 0.0282）から 1989 年の 11,851 件（0.0294）が最多で、2025 年は 2,039 件（0.0011）だった（第 4 節）。

第二に、これが本稿の芯である。日本語の論文のうち「英語の要旨」の出版形式（english abstract）が付いたものは、2015 年の 2,557 件から 2018 年の 23 件に落ち、2023 年に 1,806 件へ戻った。ところが要旨のある日本語の論文（hasabstract）は、2015 年の 3,545 件から 2018 年の 2,299 件へ減っただけで、2023 年は 1,806 件だった（第 5 節）。

第三に、同じ「英語の要旨」の出版形式は、言語を問わず 2015 年の 18,937 件から 2017 年の 1,287 件（0.0680 倍）に減り、2023 年に 23,594 件へ戻っていた。日本語の論文だけに起きたことではない。要旨のある日本語の論文のうち札の付いた割合が 0.05 未満だったのは、2017〜2021 年の 5 年だった（第 5 節）。

第四に、所属の札も年によって付き方が違った。日本の所属を持つ記録は 1986 年の 536 件から 1987 年の 6,551 件、1988 年の 14,657 件へ跳ね、日本語の論文のうち日本の所属を持つ割合は 2013 年の 0.376 から 2014 年の 0.112 へ落ちた（理由は確かめていない・第 6 節）。

第五に、札で数えた数の動きは、札の付き方の動きを含む。「英語の要旨のある日本語の論文が 2017 年に消えた」とは、要旨の有無で数えると言えない（第 5 節）。

第六に、分けるのは 付けられた札で数えるか、記録の中身で数えるか である。PubMed で「〜の論文が減った（増えた）」と聞いたら、それが出版形式・所属などの札で数えた数か、記録の中身で数えた数かを確かめる。

Abstract

Using counts from PubMed (U.S. National Library of Medicine) retrieved through E-utilities (27 September 2026), this paper counted papers written in Japanese (language field Japanese) by publication year from 1975 to 2025, and crossed them with whether an abstract exists, the "English Abstract" publication type, and Japanese affiliation. Whether Japanese-language papers are many or few, good or bad, and research quality are not discussed. No new mathematical theorem and no new law are claimed.

First, Japanese-language papers went from 7,041 in 1975 (0.0282 of all records) to a peak of 11,851 in 1989 (0.0294), and numbered 2,039 in 2025 (0.0011) (Section 4).

Second, and this is the core of this paper, Japanese-language papers carrying the "English Abstract" publication type fell from 2,557 in 2015 to 23 in 2018 and returned to 1,806 in 2023. But Japanese-language papers with an abstract (hasabstract) only fell from 3,545 in 2015 to 2,299 in 2018, and numbered 1,806 in 2023 (Section 5).

Third, the same "English Abstract" publication type, regardless of language, fell from 18,937 in 2015 to 1,287 in 2017 (0.0680 times) and returned to 23,594 in 2023. It did not happen only to Japanese-language papers. The share of Japanese-language papers with an abstract that carried the label was below 0.05 in the 5 years 2017–2021 (Section 5).

Fourth, the affiliation label was also attached differently by year. Records with a Japanese affiliation jumped from 536 in 1986 to 6,551 in 1987 and 14,657 in 1988, and the share of Japanese-language papers with a Japanese affiliation fell from 0.376 in 2013 to 0.112 in 2014 (the reasons were not checked; Section 6).

Fifth, movements in counts by label include movements in how the label is attached. Counting by whether an abstract exists, one cannot say that "Japanese-language papers with English abstracts disappeared in 2017" (Section 5).

Sixth, what separates them is whether you count by the label attached or by what the record contains. When you hear on PubMed that "papers of some kind decreased (or increased)," check whether it was counted by labels such as publication type or affiliation, or by what the records contain.
