Abstract
Voltage is said to tell how much charge is left. But the equation joining voltage to concentration is logarithmic, and a tenfold difference amounts to only $59$ mV. What that slope demands of whoever measures is counted here. No new theorem or law is claimed.
First, and this is the core. A tenfold change in concentration moves the voltage by only $59$ mV、$\mathbf{59.159350}$ mV/decade at $25$ degrees Celsius and unit charge, and even a thousandfold difference gives $\mathbf{177.478049}$ mV (Section 2).
Second, so it cannot serve as a fuel gauge、from $10$ % to $90$ % used the voltage moves $\mathbf{112.904733}$ mV, and widening the range to $1$ % and $99$ % gives only $\mathbf{236.120961}$ mV (Section 2).
Third, read backwards, the burden falls on the precision of the measurement、a $5$ mV error puts the concentration out by $\mathbf{1.214836}$, and a $10$ mV error by $\mathbf{1.475825}$ (Section 2).
Fourth, the slope itself is not a constant、it is $\mathbf{54.198814}$ mV/decade at $0$ and $\mathbf{66.104100}$ mV/decade at $60$ degrees Celsius, a factor of $\mathbf{1.219660}$, and exactly halved at $\mathbf{29.579675}$ mV/decade for a doubly charged ion (Section 3).
Fifth, the pH meter stands on this same slope、reading $0.01$ pH requires reading $\mathbf{0.591593}$ mV, so the demand passes wholly to the voltmeter (Section 3).
Sixth, the separator is whether a quantity enters logarithmically or linearly、entering logarithmically folds a wide range into a narrow voltage, and gives back no resolution for it (Section 4).
