要旨
火事の煙は燃えたものだと思われている。質量で数えると、そのほとんどは燃えていない空気である。燃えた量と煙の量を、同じ単位で並べる。新しい定理も法則も主張しない。
第一に、燃えている量は小さい。出力 $1000$ kW でも $\mathbf{0.076923}$ kg/s である（第2節）。
第二に、これが本稿の芯である。煙はその $\mathbf{119.816801}$ 倍ある。高さ $5$ m での上昇流は $\mathbf{9.216677}$ kg/s で、煙の $\mathbf{0.991654}$ は引き込まれた空気である（第2節）。
第三に、巻き込みは高さで強く効く。$5/3$ 乗なので、天井を倍にすると $\mathbf{3.174802}$ 倍になる（第3節）。
第四に、火の大きさは弱くしか効かない。$1/3$ 乗なので、出力を $4$ 倍にしても $\mathbf{1.587401}$ 倍にしかならない（第3節）。
第五に、だから煙は速く下がる。床面積 $400$ m²・天井 $5$ m の室で、頭の高さまで $\mathbf{80.188721}$ 秒である（第3節）。
第六に、分離子は、煙の量を決めているのが燃料か、天井の高さかである。燃料を減らしても、天井が高ければ煙は増える（第4節）。

Abstract
The smoke in a fire is taken to be what burned. Counted by mass, most of it never burned at all.What burned and what became smoke are set side by side in the same units.No new theorem or law is claimed.
First, the mass burning is small、even at $1000$ kW it is $\mathbf{0.076923}$ kg/s (Section 2).
Second, and this is the core. The smoke is $\mathbf{119.816801}$ times that、the plume at $5$ m carries $\mathbf{9.216677}$ kg/s, of which $\mathbf{0.991654}$ is entrained air (Section 2).
Third, entrainment depends strongly on height、at the $5/3$ power, so doubling the ceiling gives $\mathbf{3.174802}$ (Section 3).
Fourth, the size of the fire matters only weakly、at the $1/3$ power, so quadrupling the output gives merely $\mathbf{1.587401}$ (Section 3).
Fifth, so the smoke descends quickly、in a room of $400$ m² with a $5$ m ceiling it reaches head height in $\mathbf{80.188721}$ seconds (Section 3).
Sixth, the separator is whether the volume of smoke is set by the fuel or by the ceiling height、reduce the fuel and a high ceiling still gives more smoke (Section 4).
