要旨

織物は、同じ糸を同じ本数並べても、交わり方で手ざわりも光り方も変わる。交わり方が何を決めているかを、繰り返しの型から数える。新しい定理も法則も主張しない。

第一に、交錯の密度は組織だけで決まる。平織 $\mathbf{1.000000}$ から $8$ 枚朱子 $\mathbf{0.250000}$ まで（第2節）。

第二に、その幅は四倍ある。平織と $8$ 枚朱子で $\mathbf{4.000000}$ 倍、$5$ 枚朱子とでも $\mathbf{2.500000}$ 倍（第2節）。

第三に、これが本稿の芯である。平均の浮きは、交錯の密度のちょうど逆数である。積はどの組織でも $\mathbf{1.000000}$ で、「浮きが長い」と「交錯が少ない」は一つの量の二つの読み方である（第2節）。

第四に、それでも一つの数では言い尽くせない。$2/2$ 綾と $3/1$ 綾は密度 $\mathbf{0.500000}$・平均の浮き $\mathbf{2.000000}$ で同じなのに、最長の浮きは $2$ と $3$ で違う（第3節）。

第五に、表に出る糸の割合も別に動く。同じ二つの綾で $\mathbf{0.500000}$ と $\mathbf{0.750000}$、$8$ 枚朱子なら $\mathbf{0.125000}$（第3節）。

第六に、分離子は、布の性格を分けているのが糸か、交わりの順序かである。糸も密度も固定したまま、順序だけで三つの量が動く（第4節）。

Abstract

A woven fabric made from the same yarn at the same count still changes in hand and sheen with the way the threads cross.What the way of crossing determines is counted from the repeating pattern.No new theorem or law is claimed.

First, interlacing density is set by the weave alone、from $\mathbf{1.000000}$ in plain weave to $\mathbf{0.250000}$ in $8$-end satin (Section 2).

Second, the span is fourfold、$\mathbf{4.000000}$ between plain and $8$-end satin, and $\mathbf{2.500000}$ with $5$-end satin (Section 2).

Third, and this is the core. The mean float is exactly the reciprocal of the interlacing density、the product is $\mathbf{1.000000}$ in every weave, so “long floats” and “few interlacings” are two readings of one quantity (Section 2).

Fourth, yet one number does not say it all、$2/2$ and $3/1$ twill share density $\mathbf{0.500000}$ and mean float $\mathbf{2.000000}$, with longest floats of $2$ and $3$ (Section 3).

Fifth, the share of yarn on the face moves separately、$\mathbf{0.500000}$ and $\mathbf{0.750000}$ for the same two twills, and $\mathbf{0.125000}$ for $8$-end satin (Section 3).

Sixth, the separator is whether a fabric’s character is set by the yarn or by the order of crossings、with yarn and density fixed, order alone moves three quantities (Section 4).
