虹に紫は出るが、「紫」として見える色の一部はスペクトルのどこにも無い。本稿は、三つの受容体を山で置いた模型で、混色が直線に乗り単色光の並びが曲がっていることを数える。新しい定理も法則も主張しない。

第一に、単色光の色度は曲線をなす。$400$ から $700$ nm の $301$ 点で、両端は $(0.991818, 0.005277)$ と $(0.000000, 0.029312)$ である（第2節）。

第二に、これが本稿の芯である。混色はその両端を結ぶ直線に乗る。混ぜる割合を $0.25$・$0.5$・$0.75$ と変えても、線からの距離は $10^{-18}$ の桁である（第3節）。

第三に、その線の上に単色光は無い。中点 $(0.495909, 0.017295)$ に最も近い単色光は $471$ nm でも距離 $\mathbf{0.265513}$ 離れている（第3節）。

第四に、単色光の並びは大きく曲がっている。線から最大 $\mathbf{0.556555}$ 離れる（第2節）。

第五に、だから「色」と「波長」は一対一ではない。混色でしか作れない色があり、それが紫の線である（第4節）。

第六に、分離子は、混色として作れるかを問うか、単色光として在るかを問うかである。「その色は存在するか」という問いが、二つの別の問いを指している（第4節）。

Abstract

A rainbow shows violet, yet part of what is seen as “purple” is nowhere in the spectrum.This paper counts, in a model with three receptors placed as peaks, that mixtures lie on a straight line while the monochromatic locus curves.No new theorem or law is claimed.

First, the chromaticities of monochromatic light form a curve、over $301$ points from $400$ to $700$ nm, the ends are $(0.991818, 0.005277)$ and $(0.000000, 0.029312)$ (Section 2).

Second, and this is the core. Mixtures lie on the segment joining those ends、at proportions $0.25$, $0.5$ and $0.75$ the distance from the segment is of order $10^{-18}$ (Section 3).

Third, no monochromatic light lies on that segment、the nearest to the midpoint $(0.495909, 0.017295)$ is at $471$ nm and still $\mathbf{0.265513}$ away (Section 3).

Fourth, the locus curves far from the segment、by as much as $\mathbf{0.556555}$ (Section 2).

Fifth, so colour and wavelength are not in one-to-one correspondence、some colours exist only as mixtures, and they make up the line of purples (Section 4).

Sixth, the separator is whether one asks if a colour can be mixed or if a wavelength exists、“does that colour exist?” points at two different questions (Section 4).
