要旨
人口動態統計の死亡の場所（1951〜2024 年）と、2005 年・2024 年の年齢（5 歳階級）× 死亡の場所の表で、亡くなる場所の割合の動きを、亡くなる人の年齢の並びと、年齢ごとの場所の割合に分けた。新しい数学定理も新しい法則も主張しない。
第一に、表はそろっている。年次の表では施設内 ＝ 各施設の和、施設外 ＝ 自宅 ＋ その他、総数 ＝ 施設内 ＋ 施設外 が 74 年すべてで成り立ち、年齢別の表では場所の和・年齢の和・男女の和が総数に一致し、二つの表の 2005 年・2024 年の総数の行は一致する（第3節）。
第二に、病院で亡くなる割合は 1951 年の 0.0905 から上がり、1977 年に自宅（0.4397）を上回り（0.4570）、2005 年の 0.7975 で山になった。 2024 年は 0.6439。自宅の割合は 1951 年の 0.8247 から 2006 年の 0.1216 まで下がり、2022 年に 0.1742 まで戻ってから、2024 年は 0.1638。老人ホームは 2005 年の 0.0215 から 2024 年の 0.1221 になった（第4節）。
第三に、ここが本稿の芯である。2005→2024 年の病院の割合の下がり −0.1538 のうち、亡くなる人の年齢の並びの分は −0.0129 で、年齢ごとの場所の割合の分が −0.1409（0.916）だった。 亡くなる人のうち 90 歳以上の割合は 0.173 から 0.319 になったが、病院の割合を下げたのは主に同じ年齢の中の動きである。自宅の割合の上がり +0.0413 は、年齢ごとの割合の分 +0.0537 と年齢の並びの分 −0.0124 の和で、向きが逆。老人ホームは二つの分がどちらも上向き（+0.0218 と +0.0788）である（第5節）。
第四に、自宅の割合は、60〜64 歳で 0.131 から 0.273（2.09 倍）に上がり、60〜89 歳のどの年齢でも上がった一方、90 歳以上では下がった（90〜94 歳で 0.133 から 0.117）。 自宅の割合がいちばん低い年齢は、2005 年の 70〜74 歳から 2024 年の 90〜94 歳へ動いた。男女どちらでも同じ向きである（第6節）。
第五に、高い年齢では、自宅の代わりに老人ホームの割合が大きい。 老人ホームの割合は 2005 年も 2024 年も年齢が高いほど大きく、2024 年の 100 歳以上では 0.316 と、自宅（0.140）の 2.26 倍である（第6節）。
第六に、分けるのは亡くなる人の年齢の並びが動いたか、同じ年齢で場所の割合が動いたか。「自宅で亡くなる人が増えた」は、年齢によって逆の向きを一つにまとめた数である。
Abstract
Using the place of death in the Vital Statistics (1951–2024) and the tables of age (5-year groups) × place of death for 2005 and 2024, the movement in the share of deaths by place was divided into the age mix of those who die and the share by place at each age. It claims no new mathematical theorem and no new law.
First, the tables are consistent. In the yearly table, in-facility = sum of facilities, out-of-facility = home + other, and total = in-facility + out-of-facility hold in all 74 years; in the tables by age, the sums over places, ages, and sexes match the totals; and the 2005 and 2024 total rows agree between the two tables (Section 3).
Second, the share of deaths in hospital rose from 0.0905 in 1951, passed home (0.4397) in 1977 (0.4570), and peaked at 0.7975 in 2005. In 2024 it is 0.6439. The share at home fell from 0.8247 in 1951 to 0.1216 in 2006, came back to 0.1742 in 2022, and is 0.1638 in 2024. Nursing homes for the elderly went from 0.0215 in 2005 to 0.1221 in 2024 (Section 4).
Third, this is the core of the paper. Of the fall of −0.1538 in the hospital share from 2005 to 2024, the age-mix part is −0.0129 and the age-specific-share part is −0.1409 (0.916). The share of those who die at 90+ went from 0.173 to 0.319, but what lowered the hospital share was mainly movement within the same age. The rise of +0.0413 at home is the sum of +0.0537 from age-specific shares and −0.0124 from the age mix, in opposite directions. For nursing homes, both parts are upward (+0.0218 and +0.0788) (Section 5).
Fourth, the share at home rose from 0.131 to 0.273 (2.09-fold) at 60–64 and rose at every age from 60 to 89, while it fell at 90+ (from 0.133 to 0.117 at 90–94). The age with the lowest share at home moved from 70–74 in 2005 to 90–94 in 2024. The direction is the same for both men and women (Section 6).
Fifth, at older ages, nursing homes take a larger share instead of home. The nursing-home share is larger at older ages in both 2005 and 2024, and at 100+ in 2024 it is 0.316, 2.26 times that at home (0.140) (Section 6).
Sixth, what separates them is whether the age mix of those who die moved or the share by place moved within the same age. "More people are dying at home" bundles opposite directions by age into one number.
