Abstract
Paper 52 stated that the $8\pi$ of the Hawking temperature is $4\times2\pi$, that this $2\pi$ is a periodicity and not a solid angle, and that it shares its root with the $2\pi$ of the Unruh effect. This paper proves that, and then tests the decomposition by moving the black hole. NO NEW MATHEMATICAL THEOREM AND NO NEW PHYSICAL LAW IS CLAIMED.
First, the $2\pi$ is a smoothness condition. The Euclidean Rindler metric is, near the origin, a plane in polar coordinates, and the condition for having no conical singularity is that the angle have period exactly $2\pi$. A period of $\pi$ or of $4\pi$ leaves a deficit (checked here). So the $2\pi$ of $T=a/(2\pi)$ is smoothness, not a solid angle (Section 2).
Second, the $4$ lives in the surface gravity. For Schwarzschild, $\kappa=f'(r_h)/2=1/(4M)$ and hence $T=\kappa/(2\pi)=1/(8\pi M)$ (computed here symbolically). The $4$ of $8\pi=2\pi\times4$ comes from the relation between surface gravity and mass (Section 3).
Third, and this is the core. Move the black hole and the $4$ moves while the $2\pi$ does not. For Reissner–Nordström the coefficient is $1/(8\pi)=0.039789$ at $Q/M=0$, $0.033648$ at $0.9$, $0.017243$ at $0.99$ and zero at extremality; Kerr behaves the same way. The $8\pi$ is not universal. What is universal is $T=\kappa/(2\pi)$ (Section 4).
Fourth, near the horizon the local temperature IS the Unruh temperature. The ratio of the Tolman-shifted local temperature to the proper acceleration of a static observer runs $0.16235396\to0.15915495$ as $r/2M-1$ falls from $10^{-2}$ to $10^{-8}$, agreeing with $1/(2\pi)=0.15915494$ to eight digits (Section 5).
Fifth, they are nevertheless not the same phenomenon. The Unruh effect needs no horizon of finite area, no evaporation, and no gravity. One root for the $2\pi$; different physics around it (Section 6).
