要旨

調和平均・幾何平均・算術平均・二乗平均は、四つの別の道具に見える。本稿はそれらが一つの族の四点であることを数で確かめ、そのうえで何が本当に四つを分けているのかを測る。新しい数学定理も新しい法則も主張しない。

第一に、四つの名前は一本の連続体の四点である。べき平均 $M_p$ の $p=-1,0,1,2$ が四つの定義と桁まで一致し（差ゼロ）、$p$ を動かすと値は最小値から最大値まで連続に動く（第2節）。

第二に、等号の柵は三つではなく一つである。三つの隣り合う隙間は同時に消え、しかも比を保ったまま消える。隙間の比は $d=0.001$ で $1.000000 : 1 : 1.000000$（第3節）。

第三に、これが本稿の芯である。柵の近くで四つは等間隔に並ぶ。三つの隙間の最大と最小の比は、$x=(1,\,1.001)$ で $1.0000$ である。ところが $x=(1,\,100)$ では $5.0500$ になる。順序は普遍であり、間隔は普遍ではない（第4節）。

第四に、四つを分けている分離子は「何を保存するか」である。四つの平均を四つの保存量に当てると表は対角になる。どの平均もちょうど一つを保ち、残る三つを壊す（第5節）。

第五に、実際に破れる柵は等号条件ではなく「正であること」である。負の値をひとつ入れると順序そのものが逆転する。$x=(1,4,-2)$ で調和平均 $4.0$ が算術平均 $1.0$ を上回る（第7節）。

Abstract

The harmonic, geometric, arithmetic and quadratic means look like four separate tools. This paper checks numerically that they are four points of one family, and then measures what actually separates them. NO NEW MATHEMATICAL THEOREM AND NO NEW LAW IS CLAIMED.

First, the four names are four points on one continuum. The power mean $M_p$ at $p=-1,0,1,2$ agrees with the four definitions to every digit (difference zero), and as $p$ moves the value sweeps continuously from the smallest entry to the largest (Section 2).

Second, there is one equality fence, not three. The three consecutive gaps close together, and they close keeping their ratio、at $d=0.001$ the ratio is $1.000000 : 1 : 1.000000$ (Section 3).

Third, this is the core of the paper. Near the fence the four are equally spaced. The ratio of the largest gap to the smallest is $1.0000$ at $x=(1,\,1.001)$、but it is $5.0500$ at $x=(1,\,100)$. The order is universal; the spacing is not (Section 4).

Fourth, the separator is what each mean conserves. Applying the four means to four conserved quantities gives a diagonal table、each mean preserves exactly one and destroys the other three (Section 5).

Fifth, the fence that actually breaks is positivity, not the equality condition. One negative entry reverses the order itself、at $x=(1,4,-2)$ the harmonic mean $4.0$ sits above the arithmetic mean $1.0$ (Section 7).
