要旨

「独立」という語は、線形代数・確率論・体論のそれぞれで別の意味を持つ。本稿は四つを一つの表に並べ、どれか一つが成り立っても他については何も言えないことを数で書く。新しい数学定理も新しい法則も主張しない。

第一に、独立の破れはまばらである。$X$ を $[-1,1]$ の一様分布、$Y=X^2$（これ以上ないほど従属）として $E[X^aY^b]$ と $E[X^a]E[Y^b]$ を $20$ 組較べると、$14$ 組は成り立ち、$6$ 組だけが破れた（第2節）。

第二に、そして誰もが確かめる一組は成り立つ側にある。相関にあたる $(1,1)$ の隙間は正確に $0$であり、破れるのは $(2,1)$ の $0.08888888889$ からである（第2節）。

第三に、これが本稿の芯である。$X,Y$ を公正な硬貨、$Z=X\oplus Y$ とすると、三つの対はいずれも隙間 $0$なのに、三つまとめては $-0.125$ 破れる。標本 $400$ 万でも $P(X=Y=Z=1)=0.00000000$ に対し $1/8=0.125$（第4節）。

第四に、線形独立と統計的独立はたがいを見ない。$X$ と $X^2$ の標本を並べた行列の階数も、独立な二つの標本の階数も、どちらも $\mathbf{2}$ であった（第5節）。

第五に、代数的独立は探索では決まらない。$(\pi,\pi^2)$ では係数 $2$ までで厳密な関係 $y=x^2$が見つかるのに、$(\pi,e)$ では最小値が $0.00017823786$ にとどまり、そこから改善しなかった（第6節）。

Abstract

The word “independent” carries a different meaning in linear algebra, in probability and in field theory. This paper sets four of them in one table and writes in numbers that any one of them holding says nothing about the others. NO NEW MATHEMATICAL THEOREM AND NO NEW LAW IS CLAIMED.

First, the failure of independence is sparse. Taking $X$ uniform on $[-1,1]$ and $Y=X^2$, which is as dependent as anything can be, and comparing $E[X^aY^b]$ with $E[X^a]E[Y^b]$ over twenty pairs, fourteen hold and only six fail (Section 2).

Second, the one pair everybody checks is among those that hold. The gap at $(1,1)$, which is the correlation, is exactly zero, and the failures begin at $(2,1)$ with $0.08888888889$ (Section 2).

Third, this is the core. With $X,Y$ fair coins and $Z=X\oplus Y$, all three pairs have a gap of zero while the three together are off by $-0.125$、and in four million samples $P(X=Y=Z=1)=0.00000000$ against $1/8=0.125$ (Section 4).

Fourth, linear and statistical independence cannot see one another. The rank of the pair of sample vectors was $\mathbf{2}$ both for $X$ with $X^2$ and for two genuinely independent variables (Section 5).

Fifth, algebraic independence cannot be settled by search. For $(\pi,\pi^2)$ coefficients up to two already find the exact relation $y=x^2$, and for $(\pi,e)$ the least value reached is $0.00017823786$ and did not improve thereafter (Section 6).
