要旨

糸を撚ると繊維は荷重方向から傾く。傾けば分力が減るのだから、撚りは強度を下げるはずである。ところが撚らない糸は、ほとんど何の強度ももたない。新しい定理も法則も主張しない。

第一に、傾きの項 $\cos^2\alpha$ だけなら、強度は $0$ 度で最大になり、単調に減る（第2節）。

第二に、掴みの項 $1-e^{-k\tan\alpha}$ を入れると、$0$ 度の強度が $\mathbf{0.000000}$ になる（第2節）。

第三に、これが本稿の芯である。最大は $\mathbf{34.55}$ 度・値 $\mathbf{0.381464}$ に立つ。二つの単調な項の積が、内点に最大を作っている（第3節）。

第四に、$60$ 度でもまだ最大の $\mathbf{0.5734}$ 倍あり、半分を割らない（第3節）。

第五に、掴みの項を外すと最大は消え、$0$ 度に戻る。上がっているのは傾きではない（第4節）。

第六に、分離子は「繊維が連続か、有限長か」である（第5節）。

Abstract

Twisting a yarn tilts its fibres away from the load direction.A tilt reduces the resolved component, so twist ought to lower the strength、and yet a yarn with no twist has almost no strength at all.No new theorem or law is claimed.

First, with the tilt term $\cos^2\alpha$ alone the strength is maximal at $0$ degrees and falls monotonically (Section 2).

Second, adding the grip term $1-e^{-k\tan\alpha}$ makes the strength at $0$ degrees exactly $\mathbf{0.000000}$ (Section 2).

Third, and this is the core of the paper.The maximum stands at $\mathbf{34.55}$ degrees with the value $\mathbf{0.381464}$: a product of two monotone factors has an interior maximum (Section 3).

Fourth, even at $60$ degrees the strength is still $\mathbf{0.5734}$ of the maximum and does not fall below half (Section 3).

Fifth, remove the grip term and the maximum disappears, returning to $0$ degrees. What rises is not the tilt (Section 4).

Sixth, the separator is “are the fibres continuous or of finite length” (Section 5).
