要旨

迷路では右手を壁に付けて進めば必ず出られる、と言われる。本稿は、その約束がどこで崩れるかを、壁を取り除いた迷路で数える。新しい定理も法則も主張しない。

第一に、閉路の無い迷路では、必ず着く。すべての部屋が一本の道でつながる $15\times15$ の迷路で、無作為な出発点と目的地の $120$ 回すべてに着いた（第2節）。

第二に、壁を取り除くと、着けない回が出る。内側の壁を $2$ 枚取り除くと $0.883333$、$10$ 枚で $\mathbf{0.541667}$、$40$ 枚で $0.233333$ しか着かない（第2節）。

第三に、これが本稿の芯である。崩すのは閉路ではなく、外周とつながらない壁の塊である。塊が $0$ 個の回では一度も着けなかったことが無く、着けなかった回はすべて塊のある迷路で起きた（第3節）。

第四に、壁を取り除くと、閉路と塊の両方が増える。閉路の数（道の数 $-$ 部屋の数 $+1$）はすべての回で取り除いた枚数に等しく、外周とつながらない塊は $40$ 枚で平均 $\mathbf{25.866667}$ 個だった（第3節）。

第五に、着いても、近道はしない。閉路の無い迷路で着いたときの歩数は、最短の道の $\mathbf{5.728101}$ 倍だった（第2節）。

第六に、分離子は、道が閉路を持つかを問うか、壁が外周とつながっているかを問うかである。右手が伝うのは壁であり、壁が一続きなら道に閉路があっても外周をたどる（第4節）。

Abstract

It is said that keeping the right hand on the wall always gets you out of a maze.This paper counts, in mazes with walls removed, where that promise breaks.No new theorem or law is claimed.

First, in a loop-free maze it always arrives: in a $15\times15$ maze whose rooms are joined by single paths, all $120$ trials with random start and goal arrived (Section 2).

Second, removing walls brings failures: removing $2$ inner walls gives $0.883333$, $10$ gives $\mathbf{0.541667}$, and $40$ gives only $0.233333$ (Section 2).

Third, and this is the core. What breaks it is not the loops but wall pieces cut off from the outer wall: no trial ever failed when there were no such pieces; every failure happened in a maze that had them (Section 3).

Fourth, removing walls adds both loops and cut-off pieces: the number of loops (paths $-$ rooms $+1$) equalled the number of removed walls in every trial, and cut-off pieces averaged $\mathbf{25.866667}$ with $40$ walls removed (Section 3).

Fifth, arriving is not taking a shortcut: in loop-free mazes, the steps taken were $\mathbf{5.728101}$ times the shortest path (Section 2).

Sixth, the separator is whether one asks if the paths contain loops or if the walls are joined to the outer wall: the hand follows walls, and if the walls are all joined, it traces the outer wall even when the paths contain loops (Section 4).
