要旨

本稿が問うのは、「首がすわるのは何か月」「歩くのは何か月」という言い方が、何を省いているか、である。答えは、月齢の幅、である。令和 5 年の乳幼児身体発育調査の「通過率」（月齢ごとに「できる」と答えた割合）を読むと、できる子が半分になる月齢と 9 割になる月齢のあいだには、項目によって 1 か月弱から 5 か月弱の開きがある。新しい数学定理も新しい法則も主張しない。

第一に、通過率の表は、2 か月から 23 か月まで 1 か月ごとの 22 の群れについて、運動機能 6 項目と言語機能 1 項目の割合を載せている。値はすべて 0〜100 で、項目ごとに値の入っている月齢の範囲が違う（第3節）。

第二に、これが本稿の芯である。月齢の群れの真ん中を直線でつないで読むと、できる子が 50 % から 90 % になるまでの月齢の幅は、首のすわり 0.98 か月、ねがえり 1.23 か月、ひとりすわり 2.21 か月、はいはい 2.81 か月、つかまり立ち 2.62 か月、ひとり歩き 2.90 か月、言葉を話す 4.82 か月である（第4節）。

第三に、幅は後に来る項目ほど広い。50 % になる月齢と 50→90 % の幅の相関は 0.903 で、幅を 50 % の月齢で割ると 0.227（ひとり歩き）から 0.368（はいはい）に収まる。幅は、真ん中の月齢のおよそ 2 割から 4 割の大きさで、月齢とともに大きくなる（第5節）。

第四に、1 歳 0 か月台では、ひとり歩きが「できる」と答えた割合は 47.9 %、言葉を話すは 36.5 %である。1 歳 3 か月台では 88.4 % と 69.6 %、1 歳 6 か月台では 97.5 % と 91.1 % である（第4節）。

第五に、1 か月ごとの割合は、ところどころで前の月より下がる（7 項目で合わせて 7 か所）。一般調査の人数は 0 歳 1453 人・1 歳 964 人で、1 か月あたりに直すと平均 121 人と 80 人になり、一つの群れの割合には揺れがある（第6節）。

第六に、「何か月でできる」は一つの月齢ではなく、半分の子ができる月齢と、ほとんどの子ができる月齢のあいだの幅である。 その幅は、後に来る項目ほど月単位で広がる。この表は集団の割合で、一人の子の発達を判定する道具ではない。

Abstract

This paper asks what “head control comes at N months” or “walking comes at N months” leaves out、the answer is the range of ages. In the “pass rates” of the 2023 National Growth Survey on Preschool Children (the share answered “can do” at each age in months), the age at which half of children pass and the age at which 9 in 10 pass lie 1 to 5 months apart, depending on the milestone. No new mathematical theorem or new law is claimed.

First, the pass-rate tables give 22 one-month age groups from 2 to 23 months, for 6 motor milestones and 1 language milestone. All values lie between 0 and 100, and each milestone covers a different range of ages (Section 3).

Second, this is the core of the paper. Joining the midpoints of the age groups with straight lines, the span from 50% to 90% passing is 0.98 months for head control, 1.23 for rolling over, 2.21 for sitting alone, 2.81 for crawling, 2.62 for pulling to stand, 2.90 for walking alone, and 4.82 for saying words (Section 4).

Third, the span is wider for later milestones. The correlation between the 50% age and the 50-to-90% span is 0.903, and the span divided by the 50% age stays between 0.227 (walking alone) and 0.368 (crawling). The span is roughly 2 to 4 tenths of the middle age and grows with it (Section 5).

Fourth, at 1 year 0 months, 47.9% were answered as walking alone and 36.5% as saying words; at 1 year 3 months, 88.4% and 69.6%; at 1 year 6 months, 97.5% and 91.1% (Section 4).

Fifth, the monthly shares dip below the previous month in places (7 dips across the 7 milestones). The general survey covered 1453 children aged 0 and 964 aged 1, about 121 and 80 per month on average, so each group’s share wobbles (Section 6).

Sixth, “can do at N months” is not one age but the span between the age at which half can and the age at which almost all can. That span widens by months for later milestones. The table describes a population, not a tool for judging one child’s development.
