要旨

ラマヌジャンが学んだ本は、約五千の結果から証明を削ぎ落としたものであった。証明が落ちれば柵も落ちる。そして柵が落ちると、記号の身分が読めなくなる。本稿は、彼の書いた「＝」を四つに分け、それぞれを数で確かめる。新しい数学定理も新しい法則も主張しない。

第一に、厳密に真な等号がある。$1/\pi$ の級数は一項ごとに約八桁を買い、正しい桁は $7\to15\to23\to31\to39\to47$ と増えた（第3節）。

第二に、漸近的でしかない等号がある。分割数の評価は、絶対誤差が $6.10$ から $4.71\times10^{43}$ へ増え、相対誤差が $14.53\%$ から $0.998\%$ へ減った（第4節）。

第三に、これが本稿の芯である。$1+2+3+\cdots=-1/12$ の左辺の部分和は $10^8$ 項で $5{,}000{,}000{,}050{,}000{,}000$ である。一致するのは$\zeta(-1)$ との差が $\mathbf{0}$という事実であって、和ではない（第5節）。

第四に、収束の証明を要する等号がある。入れ子の根号は深さ $40$ で $2.999999999986$ に達した。記号のどこにも「収束する」とは書いていない（第6節）。

第五に、計算では永久に反証できない不等号がある。$\pi(x)<\mathrm{li}(x)$ は $10^7$ まで一度も破れない（差は $339.41$）、それでもリトルウッドは無限回破れることを証明した（第7節）。

Abstract

The book Ramanujan learned from was some five thousand results with the proofs stripped out. When a proof goes, the fence goes with it、and when the fence goes, the symbol no longer carries its type. This paper sorts the equals signs he wrote into four kinds and checks each in numbers. NO NEW MATHEMATICAL THEOREM AND NO NEW LAW IS CLAIMED.

First, some are exactly true. His series for $1/\pi$ buys about eight digits a term, the correct digits running $7\to15\to23\to31\to39\to47$ (Section 3).

Second, some are only asymptotic. For the partitions the absolute error grows from $6.10$ to $4.71\times10^{43}$ while the relative error falls from $14.53\%$ to $0.998\%$ (Section 4).

Third, this is the core. The partial sums of $1+2+3+\cdots$ reach $5{,}000{,}000{,}050{,}000{,}000$ at $10^8$ terms、what agrees with $-1/12$ is $\zeta(-1)$, to a difference of $\mathbf{0}$, and not the sum (Section 5).

Fourth, some need a proof of convergence. The nested radical reaches $2.999999999986$ at depth $40$、and nowhere does the symbol say that it converges (Section 6).

Fifth, one inequality no computation can refute. $\pi(x)<\mathrm{li}(x)$ holds at every $x$ out to $10^7$, the gap reaching $339.41$、and Littlewood proved it fails infinitely often (Section 7).
