要旨
「森の半分を失えば、種の半分を失う」と語られる。本稿が問うのはその比例が成り立つかである。答えは成り立たず、ずれは指数が全部決めている。新しい定理も法則も主張しない。
第一に、種数面積関係は $S=cA^{z}$ であり、島嶼では $z=0.25$ 前後とされる（第2節）。
第二に、これが本稿の芯である。面積を半分にすると、種は $\mathbf{0.840896}$ 残る（第2節）。
第三に、面積を $10$ 分の $1$ にしても $\mathbf{0.562341}$ 残る（第2節）。
第四に、逆に、種を半分にするには面積を $\mathbf{0.0625}$（$6.25$ パーセント）まで減らす必要がある（第3節）。
第五に、$z$ を $0.15$ と $0.35$ に変えると、半分の面積で残る種が $0.9013$ と $0.7846$ に分かれる（第4節）。
第六に、分離子は指数 $z$ であって、面積でも分類群でもない（第5節）。
Abstract
One hears that losing half the forest loses half the species.This paper asks whether that proportionality holds、the answer is that it does not, and the exponent settles the whole departure.No new mathematical theorem and no new law is claimed.
First, the species-area relation is $S=cA^{z}$, with $z$ about $0.25$ on islands (Section 2).
Second, this is the core of the paper.Halving the area leaves $\mathbf{0.840896}$ of the species (Section 2).
Third, cutting to a tenth still leaves $\mathbf{0.562341}$ (Section 2).
Fourth, conversely, halving the species takes cutting the area to $\mathbf{0.0625}$ ($6.25$ per cent) (Section 3).
Fifth, taking $z$ to $0.15$ and $0.35$ splits the survival at half area into $0.9013$ and $0.7846$ (Section 4).
Sixth, the separator is the exponent $z$, not the area and not the taxon (Section 5).
